The local chapter of Trout Unlimited has been working with the Village of Wild Rose to clear brush and invasive species from the waterways and areas near the north trail head of the Boardwalk.

This phase of the trail connected the west trail to the old red mill area and dam and parking at the artesian spring at North (Dopp) Park.  It will also add parking, ADA-accessible trails, and a picnic area to the north end of the Boardwalk.

At the March 2012 Village board meeting, approval was given to Darrell Toliver, representing Trout Unlimited to begin several project which will enhance the north end of the Boardwalk, including the historic trout raceways.  Separate approval was given to the Martin family to begin construction of a kiosk mapping several of the nature features including these raceways, hiking trails, the old electrification dam piers, and wildlife viewing areas.   More details and pictures of these projects will be posted as these projects are completed.

A slide show of the initial phase of Boardwalk appears below.  The Boardwalk is acessible to non-motorized traffice only.  The trail begins at Main Street, Wild Rose, just across from the Vintage Garden Restaurant.  It follows River Street to Roberts Park and continues on the west shoreline of the MIll Pond and now connects to trails across the top of the dam and the foundation of the dam used in the early Twentieth Century for water generated electricity when the village of Wild Rose was first electrified.

The development of the  Nature Area in conjunction with the Boardwalk Project allows donations of time, materials, and equipment count toward matching funds.  Be a part of this project!  For details contact our Village Clerk, Vickie Sage at 920-622-4183 or villageofwildrose@centurytel.net, or any village board member for details.
