How do you jump a mill pond with a snowmobile in the summer? WHY would you jump a mill pond with a snow machine!
You tell me! As a long time area resident and graduate of Wild Rose High School, this is the one question I most often got when people asked me where I was from. Jumping the Mill Pond with a snow mobile ended in 2005 to the disappointment of some.
Did I mention they used to do this in the summer? And yes, the Mill Pond ice does begin to break up by mid-March; regardless of the local joke of three days of summer wedged in between a two months of cool weather that stand in for spring and fall.
Actually, this puddle-jumping contest was initiated to pay for the cost of dredging the village Mill Pond, which had begun to fill in with silt washed from the sandy area surrounding it.
It makes a better pond than swamp and now attracts fishermen looking to hook some panfish. Two of our local restaurants have outside seating overlooking this pretty pond, where diners can watch turtles, geese, eagles, and duck and enjoy the water. There is no prettier place in Wild Rose on warm summer nights to kick back and relax and take in the sunset.
Can I hunt inside the village limits?
